Open PhD position
The Simulation and Modeling Group at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales of the Technical University of Madrid has opened a research position for a PhD student. For it, the group is searching for enthusiastic candidates to complete a PhD during, at most, four years in the Mechanical Engineering department of this school.
The selected candidate will join a dynamic group of researchers and work on a competitively-funded project that investigates numerical methods for topology optimization in solid mechanics.
Successful candidates must possess:
- An excellent academic record, including a completed Bachelor’s {and} Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related areas (Aerospace, Civil, Naval, etc.),
- Excellent analytical abilities, self-motivated and the ability to work independently,
- Good programming skills in C, C++, or Python,
- Knowledge of numerical methods, PDEs,
- Medium-to-high knowledge of the English language,
- Passion for study, analysis, simulation.
In addition, the following would be desirable:
- Knowledge on nonlinear continuum mechanics,
- Ability to work in a research team,
- Experience with finite elements or similar analysis techniques.
The position will include, in addition to the salary and medical insurance, a paid secondment in an international research center or university, as well as attendance to national/international conferences.
